ABOUT THE RACE / WALK:
The Race for the Cure is a series of 5K run / walk events that raise significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer in 130 cities around the world. This year’s race is a unique opportunity to celebrate life, to walk together and spread awareness about breast cancer in Bosnia Herzegovina. It is a chance to rejoice with breast cancer survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease.Last year, our First Race for the Cure in Sarajevo, highly covered by the news media, brought together more than 2,500 Bosnians - Muslims, Serbs, Croats and Jews- to walk and show their support for the fight against a common enemy: breast cancer.Breast cancer survivors, high school students, government officials, and guest celebrities were among the participants from 18 different cities who attended the event and, for the first time, gave a public face to a disease that is still remarkably taboo in this European nation.Proceeds from last year’s event provided more than 600 free mammogram check-ups for women without health insurance. This year we plan to help women purchase vital medicine that significantly improves breast cancer survival, even when discovered in a late stage.Breast cancer is a disease that knows no boundaries. Join or support the thousands of women and their families, all united by a common cause and commitment.Help JDC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure make inroads towards saving lives and eradicating breast cancer through their Women’s Health Empowerment Program (WHEP) in Bosnia Herzegovina, and around the world.
